Emo-violence from Malaysia: Jose Phine!

Jose Phine are one of the many Malaysian bands that have cropped up in the last few years, and they are definitely one of the best. They appear to have been around since 2005, so it's taken a while for them to get a demo out, unless they have previous demos that I don't know about. This is a tape version on Utarid Tapes of a demo they self released not too long back on CDr. This has one extra song though, hell yeh!

The band play the whole 'lets make fairly melodic but fast guitar driven music whilst someone is tortured in time to it' routine. There is reasonable variance in what's going on, there are quiet and fast bits. It's screamo done very well in my opinion.

Track two 'Bulanbintang' is a highlight. Is starts off fast, has a nice melodic part before exploding again amongst dual screamed vocals. The melodic guitars return briefly before the screamed finale kicks in. Really good!

A nicely put together package as usual from Utarid Tapes, the tape comes in a semi transparent plastic case. The band are going on a tour of Malaysia and Indonesia in January with Tyrant, Dying in Motion and Full-Chin. If you want a starting point for current Malaysian screamo then this is it.

Live A Life Like A Punk

It's sound creepy when something spinning round and round in just our fucking head being demonstrated or fully utilize or so easy called being used by someone in front of us. Whose going to be blamed? Are we not the best kept secret or our mind being hijack by those communist? But it just happened. Yeah..in life it's always happened.

We cannot just kill them or hang them on the wall because of using our ideology or an idea to be just like us. The best way to counter them back is just being silent. I don't mean just being like a limestone keep on silent for the whole weeks, but.... make a move. Find another source, they just moron that don't have their own idea to be somebody but manipulate someone's idea and acting like and idiot being proud thinking that they are the pioneer.

Open up your eyes wider scumbag... "It's not cool enough in that styles, we found something new... you're so lassssst year. We don't use it anymore, so FUCK you!. We just don't care of what have you taken from us".

We are the king and queen. We don't need to be just like you. Keep on chasing on us, because we create the route, not follow the route. WE LIVE OUR LIFE LIKE A PUNK. See you at the finish line..... if you can make it without losing in our route.

Favourite Band: AMPERE

Ampere is a DIY punk band based in Amherst, Massachusetts known for their short (10–15 minutes) but extremely loud and intense live shows. The band has put the importance of DIY punk ethics at the forefront of their lyrics and are known for the particular attention they bring to their vegan principles.

The members of the bands have been involved in the DIY punk scene for a number of years with the most notable being guitarist Will Killingsworth, who played guitar in Orchid, Laceration and Bucket Full of Teeth and who continues to run his Clean Plate record label and Dead Air recording studio where the band records all of their music. Drummer Andy Skelly played drums in both The last 40 Seconds and Wolves, Stephen's previous bands were Montcalm and The Last 40 Seconds. He currently also plays guitar in self-destructive supergroup Aerosols featuring members of Wasteland, Cut Up, and Northern Aggression. He also briefly ran Distort, an independent record store in Northampton, Massachusetts (May '06 - December '06). Meghan played bass in Unicoroner, and sang in Stop The Clock and Relics on their first 7" and split 7" with Furnace.

Much like Orchid, Ampere (especially earlier albums such as "All our Tomorrows End Today") often borrow some of their lyrics from philosophers and revolutionaries such as Guy Debord. They have preserved some of the "intellectual" punk seen in bands like Orchid, Sinaloa, Native Nod, Current, and others. In all of their endeavors, Ampere has persisted in their commitment to intellect, art, and sincerity.
